Thursday 26th September
Despite a strong westerly still blowing, we had a peaceful night at anchor. Unfortunately still unable to start the outboard meant that we went without fresh bread and croissants so it was just cornflakes again. The plan for the day was to go to one of the sheltered marinas in the Toulon Harbour area, however when we sailed out from behind the shelter of the Hyères isthmus it became apparent that going up wind in a 6ft swell in 20+ knots would have been unnecessarily uncomfortable. So a quick change of plan to the sheltered harbour of Porquerolles. Also, having had 2 nights at anchor it was a good opportunity to connect to shore power and recharge the batteries. As we approach October, the angle of the sun on the solar panel very much has a reduced charging effect. (we may need additional panels next year!)
In the afternoon we cycled to a quiet beach, had a quick swim and retreated to another beach with no seaweed or flies.
