Day 142 Baie des Canebiers to Baie de Cavalaire

Friday 20th September

The forecast was for the wind to pick up from the east at 6, and right on cue it did, gusting to 25 knots, and set for 3 days. We therefore had 3 options, stay put for 3 days, head north for 4 miles to the shelter of a marina opposite St Tropez, or bite the bullet and head south for 12 miles to the shelter of the Baie de Cavalaire. We decided on the latter, and despite the fact that the wind had only been blowing for a few hours we immediately met a 8-10 foot swell from the east as we left the relative shelter of the Baie des Canebiers. We contemplated turning back, but decided to continue south. 2 hours later we rounded the headland into the Baie de Cavalaire to a different world, no swell, virtually no wind and a beautiful anchorage off a small beach. Until dusk, we were the only boat.
