Days 97, 98 and 99 Montmerle-sur-Saone

Wednesday 7th – Friday 9 August

Well a space on the pontoon across the other side of the river appeared about 9 o'clock so we leapt into action as well as you can this early and secured the space. It's about 50km to Lyon where we're meeting Fern and Sean on Monday so we can afford to stay here for a few days, moreso as pontoons downriver to Lyon are limited and small. Also after no-one collected any fees the first night, we believed we were in for a few free nights. However this proved not to be the case when a young police woman knocked on the boat Friday morning and demanded €20. But still not bad for 3 nights including water and electricity. Also Montmerle sightseeing, although no really narrow streets or really old church, but interesting nonetheless, especially an old Chapel and Tower of Minime on the outskirts of town, built on the site of an 11th century castle.
