Wed 26 June
A fairly uneventful day, started about 10, and unfortunately couldn’t moor up where we’d planned at Nogent-l’Artaud because we thought better of displacing the small pontoon full of French youths jumping in the river to cool off from the 40° heatwave. Instead we went on for another 13km to Château-Thierry to a lovely shaded spot and tied up to a couple of trees.
4 locks today, and once we’d worked out that the remote control only started the lock gate sequence – you have to lift a rod when you are tied up inside the lock to then close the gates behind us and fill and open the other gates – we sailed through the other locks with ease. Decided to stay here for 2 nights and visit a champagne cave tomorrow.
