Day 53 Meaux to Isles Les Meldeuses

Monday 24 June

Well the bimini is certainly keeping the sun off and will certainly save us later in the week as the heat wave approaches. A fairly short run of 10 miles today as we started the day with a cycle ride into Meaux, the heart of the French brie region to visit the very grand cathedral and to buy bread, a few provisions and to the local Brocomarche for a lump hammer to drive the mooring stakes in when needed. Only one lock today taking us up another 2 or so metres to a mooring just upstream of the lock on the outskirts of a village. It was going to be just us for the night but at about 8pm we were joined by a Belgian barge, the second we've seen all day, heading towards Paris waiting for the lock to start up again in the early morning.
