Saturday 6th to Monday 8th September, Ormos Panagia and South Diaporos island

Anchoring in Ormos Panagia, we were immediately confronted with the problem with this area, hundreds of day boats whizzing round everywhere, often coming straight at you at a fast speed, rather disconcerting.
So once it had cooled down slightly we went ashore in search of bread, meat, fruit and vegetables. Unfortunately the only shops available being about a kilometre out out of town along a very busy dusty road (no pavement or hard shoulder) and with tomorrow being Sunday we had no choice. Saturday night we indulged in a very enjoyable taverna meal overlooking the harbour.
The next day we decided to move round the corner to anchor off Diaporos island, which once the day boats had disappeared was very tranquil, until a wildfire on the mainland resulted in three fire planes flying very low around us for an hour or so while they scooped up water. Once the sun had set we had a beautiful view of the lunar eclipse.
Our plan is to get to Leros in 5 weeks, so with a reasonable weather window forecast for the the following day, we decided we’d seen enough of the Halkidiki area and in the morning would start heading South East.
